bullet  Noted events in his life were:

1. Obituary: , 26 May 2004, United Kingdom.
Ronald Bernstein, who died on May 8 aged 85, was awarded the DFC in 1944 for his "tenacity, courage and determination" during the Salerno landings, and went on to enjoy a prominent career at the Bar, which culminated in an outstandingly successful performance as head of chambers at 11 King's Bench Walk, now Falcon Chambers.
In a profession in which such qualities are not particularly conspicuous, Bernstein always demonstrated great breadth of vision, coupled with generosity of spirit. He was a man of many parts, all of them good. A memorable figure, he was of short stature, with an erect bearing, a melodious voice, craggy features, bushy eyebrows, twinkling eyes, and famously shaking shoulders whenever he laughed, which was frequently, but never at anyone's misfortunes.
But he was always business-like and decisive, commanding respect, even sometimes a little fear, in the minds of junior members of chambers.
Ronald Harold Bernstein was born on August 18 1918 at Pontypridd. At that time, his father was selling drapery door-to-door in the Rhondda Valley, but he went on to buy a shop in Swansea. Ronald left school at 15 to work in his father's shop. After two years, he decided that he wanted to become a barrister, so he resumed his studies with a view to applying to Oxford University to read Law.
Ronald Bernstein is survived by his wife, Dr Judy Levi, whom he married in 1955, and their three sons and a daughter. He had 10 grandchildren, including a grand-daughter born the day before he died, and whose photograph he saw.
A resident of Highgate since 1955, he founded the Highgate Society in 1965, and, appropriately, was buried in Highgate Cemetery.
