1. Name Change: Ryback as an alternative to Fisher, Bef 1800, Polish Russia. Translations of the Russian word Ryback - Fisherman Fisher Fishman. Fisher is the Yiddish equivelent of the Russian word Rybak.
Polish records are more likely to reflect the surname Rybek, which is very prominent in the area our ancestors came from. Only further research will find this out, and confirm this fact.
One unknown branch of the Fisher clan did use Rybak on entering the USA, and then anglicized the name back to Fisher.
