5. Obituary: Chicago Tribune Media Group Publication, 24 Mar 2013. Cherished husband of Hazel (nee Fisher) and beloved by all who knew him, Les was born in Colesberg, South Africa. He came to the States in 1947, first as an undergraduate at the University of Michigan and, after receiving his B.S. in 1950, as a graduate student in pharmacology at the University of Wisconsin. He left the States in 1951 to work in London for a brief period in the pharmaceutical industry. After graduating from medical school at the Welsh National School of Medicine in Cardiff, Wales in 1960, Les returned to the States, settling in Chicago, to do his internship and residency training in both neurology and psychiatry at the University of Chicago Hospitals. Les was a graduate of the Chicago Institute of Psychoanalysis and in private practice from 1967 until he retired in 2008. His kindness and gentleness touched many. He will be remembered for his engaging manner that made him a virtual magnet for anyone meeting him, his playfulness that endeared him to children and brought forth smiles and giggles, his intelligence and quick wit, his thoughtfulness, and in recent years his greeting to anyone he encountered -- "did you sleep well last night?" Les was preceded in death by his father, Jacob Goldberg and mother, Masha Jetty Simson Goldberg and his brother, Leon Goldberg. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his nieces, Reeva, Kim and Jodi and his nephew Jonathan. Contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Illinois Chapter in memory of Dr. Leslie Gable would be appreciated. A memorial celebration will be held in May.
Leslie married Hazel S. FISHER in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA. (Hazel S. FISHER was born on 28 Feb 1942 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA.)
